Born in Carleton Place, Ontario, forty minutes west of Ottawa, Brendan grew up skating on frozen farm ponds and listening to Daniel Alfredsson postgame pressers on a tinny kitchen radio. His father was a federal civil servant who held Senators season tickets through every lean year; Brendan inherited both the tickets and the quiet, grinding faith that sustained them. He studied journalism at Carleton University, covered the Senators beat for the Ottawa Sun for six years before MiTL poached him with a national platform.
