About Tyrese Manning — Raleigh Hockey
Black North Carolinian, born in Durham, raised in Raleigh's Brier Creek neighborhood. His family moved from Charlotte when he was three and he became a hockey fan the same way most Raleigh kids did — somewhat accidentally and then completely. He was 10 when the Hurricanes won the Cup in 2006, and his mother framed the newspaper front page. Studied broadcast journalism at NC State, covered Hurricanes for The News & Observer for five years. Leads the Skol Clap more authentically than most people in the building.
Carolina Hurricanes Fan Perspective
Bunch of Jerks energy embraced with full pride. He loved when Don Cherry called them out and thought it was the best advertising the Caniacs ever got for free. Roots hard and roots loud and does not take himself too seriously while doing it.
Raleigh Local Coverage
Allen & Son BBQ in Chapel Hill as the pre-game pilgrimage. Calls the Research Triangle 'the only market where fans bring laptops to tailgates and nobody thinks that's weird.' References the Tobacco Road college hoops identity as 'the thing we had before hockey gave us a personality.'
Rivalry Stance
New Jersey and Washington are the divisional enemies with history. New York Rangers he has developed a specific contempt for from playoff encounters. He considers the Storm Surge 'the most innovative five minutes in any sport' and will debate this.
