Your city hall just keeps building. What's the plan?
Alright, Calgary, let's talk about what's actually happenin' down at City Hall, because sometimes it feels like they're speakin' a whole different language. For real though, the big news this week comin' off our Civic Intelligence Monitor is about development. We've seen 21 new commercial and construction permits issued across Calgary just this week, according to data collected on July 30, 2026. That's a lot of shovels in the ground.
Now, this isn't exactly a chinook breeze, but it means things are moving. We also saw the Calgary Planning Commission on June 25, 2026, forward Report CPC2026-0574, with Thom Mahler, Nathan Hawryluk, Sameer Remtulla, Rose-Mary Damiani, and Chris Hardwicke all voting "Yes" to keep that conversation goin'. This consistent green light for development makes you wonder where all these new buildings are gonna land and what kind of city we're building. Are we looking at another boom or just laying the groundwork for more empty storefronts if the price of oil takes a dive? This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.
