Camping in KC parks for the World Cup is a no-go

So look—you know how we do it here in Kansas City. We welcome folks with open arms, with a plate of burnt ends, and a good tune playing somewhere around 18th and Vine. But I just heard something that made me raise an eyebrow, come on now. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 coming to our beautiful city, and all the buzz about ticket and hotel prices just soaring higher than the Liberty Memorial, some folks were apparently thinking about pitching a tent in our city parks.

Here's the real one: Kansas City officials just put the kibosh on that idea. No overnight camping is going to be permitted in any Kansas City park for our World Cup guests. I get it, times are tight, and a lot of people are looking for ways to experience the magic without breaking the bank. But our parks, from Swope Park to Loose Park, they’re for everybody to enjoy during the day, not for setting up a whole temporary living situation. We gotta keep our green spaces beautiful and accessible, and that means keeping things orderly.

### Why This Matters for Us

This isn't just a small rule, it connects to a bigger picture for Kansas City and how we present ourselves on the world stage.

* **Protecting Our Parks:** Our parks are treasures. We’ve got some absolutely stunning natural areas, and we want to keep them pristine for residents and visitors alike.

* **Managing the Influx:** Hundreds of thousands of people are expected. Managing that kind of crowd takes careful planning, and camping in parks could lead to logistical nightmares.

* **Setting Expectations:** It's about letting everyone know the score upfront. If you're coming to Kansas City for the World Cup, plan on a hotel, an Airbnb, or staying with a friend – not a sleeping bag under the stars.

It's going to be a grand time when the World Cup rolls through, no doubt about it. We just need to make sure we're ready for it in a way that truly represents the best of Kansas City – organized, hospitable, and proud of our city, come on now.
