Your rec centre just got a major glow-up
Good morning from the Valley — the fields are talking, the rivers are moving, and we've got stories from five communities that matter.
You know, the little things often make the biggest difference, especially when it comes to keeping our community running. That’s why I was genuinely pleased to hear that construction is finally complete on the Abbotsford Recreation Centre's HeRo project – that’s "Heat Recovery and Optimization" if you’re wondering. They’ve been working on this since February, and it’s all about making that big facility over on Maclure Road more efficient. You might not see the changes from the outside, but it means a healthier building and smarter use of our resources.
### What’s the Big Deal?
* **Saving Energy:** The goal is to capture and reuse heat that would normally just escape, especially from things like the ice rink’s refrigeration system. Think about how much energy it takes to keep that ice frozen for all the Minor Hockey and public skates. * **Saving Money:** More efficiency means lower operating costs for the city, which is good news for taxpayers out here in the Valley. * **Looking Ahead:** It’s a step towards greener infrastructure, showing that even our older buildings can be updated to meet modern environmental goals.
It’s easy to focus on the big headlines, but these quiet upgrades, happening right in our backyard at places like the ARC, are what build a more resilient community. It means the facility where our kids learn to swim and our seniors stay active is running smarter, allowing those tax dollars to stretch further. That’s what I call good stewardship.
