Your kids won't believe what just happened at Cultus Lake
Good morning from the Valley — the fields are talking, the rivers are moving, and we've got stories from five communities that matter. You know, out here, we value our summers and places like Cultus Lake Waterpark are a big part of that. So, when I heard about what went down there yesterday, it just sticks with you. Twelve young folks, mostly kids, were rushed to the hospital after an electrical incident. Can you imagine? Parents sending their kids off for a day of fun, and then getting *that* call.
Now, the details are still coming together, but what we know is that students from the Coquitlam School District were visiting when this happened. They were all taken to the hospital for injuries, though thankfully, none of them were life-threatening. The good news is everyone has since been discharged. But still, the thought of an electrical issue at a place where hundreds of families, including our own kids from Abbotsford and Chilliwack, go to cool off? It's unsettling.
### Why This Matters for Our Community
* **Safety First:** It really makes you think about safety protocols at these big attractions. Our kids are out there, enjoying their summer, and we expect these places to be safe. * **Summer Plans:** Cultus Lake is practically our backyard, a go-to for families from Sumas Mountain to down past the Highway 1 exits at Whatcom Road. Many Abbotsford families have yearly passes or plan multiple trips. * **The 'What If':** Every parent who's ever dropped their kids off at the waterpark, or gone themselves, is probably doing a quick mental check right now. You just pray it never happens closer to home, or to your own.
This is a stark reminder that even in our favorite summer spots, we need to stay vigilant and ensure these places are held to the highest safety standards. We're a tight-knit community out here, and when something affects our youth, it affects all of us, from the farms on Sumas Prairie to the homes near Mill Lake.
