Okay, so here's what's actually happening: The Ford government, in its infinite wisdom, has passed this new ticket resale legislation, and folks are *not* happy about it. Basically, if you're a season ticket holder, like so many of us who live and breathe Barrie Colts hockey at Sadlon Arena, you might find yourself in a really frustrating spot. The new rules are supposed to crack down on scalpers, right? But what it's actually doing is making it super difficult for regular people to resell their tickets, even at face value.
### What This Means for Barrie
Think about it. We’ve got new subdivisions popping up on the south end, another 2,000 units approved just last month, and you know what that means? More people, more traffic, and a whole lot of families looking for something to do on a Friday night that isn't another trip down Mapleview Drive. For a lot of us, that's a Colts game.
* If you can't make a game, say you're stuck on the 400 trying to get home, or your kid's got a school event, what do you do with those season tickets? * Before, you could easily offload them to a friend, or even sell them online for what you paid, making sure those seats didn't go empty. * Now, with this rushed legislation, it’s a whole new ballgame, and not in a good way. It feels like the province is trying to fix a problem without actually understanding how people here in Barrie, and across the province, use their tickets.
It just feels like another example of the province making decisions that don't quite connect with everyday life here in Barrie. We love our Colts, we love our community events at the Heritage Park amphitheatre, and we just want to be able to share that experience, even when life gets in the way. For residents commuting to Toronto every day on the GO train, or working shifts that change week-to-week, flexibility is key. This legislation just doesn't get that.
