Rough one, Calgary. Here's what you need to know about the Flames' OT loss.
Man, that one stings a bit, eh? The Calgary Flames went down to Dallas last night and dropped a tough 4-3 overtime decision to the Stars. It felt like we just couldn't quite seal the deal. We dug ourselves into a bit of a hole after Jake Hryckowian got Dallas on the board first in the second period, but the Flames showed some real grit. Jon Farabee tied it up, then Yegor Sharangovich put us ahead before the period was out. Zach Parekh even stretched that lead to 3-1 early in the third on the power play – felt like we had all the momentum. But then Wyatt Johnston got one back for Dallas, and Jason Robertson tied it up a few minutes later. Johnston then buried the winner in overtime on the power play, and just like that, it was over.
The Flames put up a decent fight, with 20 shots to Dallas's 25, but special teams hurt us at the end. That last penalty in overtime just crushed the momentum we’d fought so hard to build. Players like Artem Klapka, with two assists, were working hard, and the young guys like Parekh and Farabee are showing flashes, which is good to see. But those quick responses from Dallas in the third, and that overtime power play goal, that's where the game got away from us. It felt like a solid effort that just fizzled out at the worst possible moment.
So, what does this mean for the Calgary Flames? We're now sitting at 32-36-9, 7th in the Pacific and clinging to that 8th wildcard spot. Our last ten games show a respectable 6-2-2 record, so the boys are still giving'r, but these single points are getting tougher to stomach as the season winds down. Every single point matters, especially when you're looking up at the standings. We need to tighten up on those critical moments and avoid taking those late penalties that cost us. The mood in Calgary this morning is definitely a bit deflated; you won't be seeing many extra milkshakes getting picked up at Peters' Drive-In today. We need to bounce back hard.
Red and gold forever — give'r, Calgary.
