Alright, good morning, Calgary! Cassidy Redcloud here, your Morning Wire correspondent, bright and early, just like the sun hitting the Rockies on a clear day – never gets old, does it? Hope you’ve all got your coffee poured and you’re ready for the buzz, because I found one that’s just… peak Calgary.
Now, you know we like to dig deep here at the MiTL Sports Desk, find those stories that make you go, “wait, for real though?” And this one, it’s from the letters to the editor, March 7th. Some folks are out there saying, “nothing wrong with time-changes, keep ‘em!” And I gotta tell ya, that hit a dry well with me. You’d think with all the chinooks we get, giving us a taste of spring in January only for February to come in like a wrecking ball, we’d be done with messing with our internal clocks. We’ve been capping that conversation about ditching the time change for years, trying to figure out if we’re gonna stay on daylight savings or standard. It’s like we’re stuck in a perpetual oil price debate, just can’t land on a consensus. Seriously, only in a city that swings from minus-thirty to plus-ten in a day would someone argue that an extra hour of chaos twice a year is just… fine.
For real though, I’m picturing this person, probably enjoying their brunch in Bridgeland, perfectly content with that jarring shift. Meanwhile, the rest of us are trying to re-regulate our sleep schedules while battling the traffic on Deerfoot and convincing ourselves that the Bow River pathway is still the real downtown, even if we’re too tired to bike it. This is Calgary – we’ve seen the boom, we’ve seen the bust, and we showed up anyway. But maybe, just maybe, we could show up a little less sleep-deprived? Just my two cents.
This is Cassidy Redcloud, keeping it real on the Morning Wire. Talk to you tomorrow, Calgary.
