Your trampoline party might be a little too wild
You know, sometimes the numbers just kinda hit you over the head like a two-by-four. We’re all about getting outside and having some fun here in Calgary – you can see it any day down on the Bow River pathway, folks out there enjoying the fresh air. But it seems like some of that fun is landing folks in the emergency room, and I'm not talking about a scraped knee after a fall off a mountain bike.
The numbers dropped, and for real though, they’re pretty wild: * Over 12,000 emergency room and urgent care visits since 2021. * That’s just for trampoline injuries across Alberta. * We're talking everything from broken bones to skull fractures, according to the report.
I mean, who knew trampolines were such a hazard? You see ‘em in backyards all over town, from McKenzie Towne to Charleswood. It’s supposed to be good, clean fun, right? But 12,000 visits? That’s like a small town’s worth of folks needing medical attention because of a bouncy mat. This is Calgary – we’ve seen the boom, we’ve seen the bust, and we showed up anyway, but maybe some of us are showing up to the ER a little too often after some trampoline acrobatics.
This kind of thing just makes you pause and think about how we're chasing that adrenaline. It’s one thing to get dinged up skiing at Sunshine Village or hitting a rough patch on your bike near Glenmore Reservoir, but your own backyard? Maybe it’s time for folks to double-check those safety nets or just stick to the steady ground for a while.
