Your City Hall thinks Nose Hill is worth $40M. Do you?

Did you know what your City Hall is doing?

Alright folks, Cassidy Redcloud here, coming to you from the MiTL Sports Desk, but today we’re talking less pucks and more property assessments. For real though, some of these numbers coming out of City Hall’s recent reports are real eye-openers.

### The Big Valuations

You know how everyone’s always talking about property values? Well, the latest property assessment highlights just dropped, and some of these big land holdings really stand out.

* Canada Olympic Park, for example, has two properties with an average assessed value of $84,140,000. That’s a whole lot of zeros. * Then there’s Nose Hill Park, seven properties averaging out to $40,863,286. When you're running or biking through there, you don't always think about the massive value of the land underneath your feet, eh?

These aren't just pretty numbers, either. These assessments, according to City Hall's own property assessment highlights, feed into how the city plans its budget and manages our resources. It's a reminder that even our beloved green spaces and recreation hubs carry significant weight on the city’s books.

### Planning Commission Keeps Things Moving

On the planning side of things, the Calgary Planning Commission has been busy. On March 12, 2026, we saw multiple motions carried, with folks like Nathan Hawryluk, Thom Mahler, Charles Boechler, Katherine Wagner, and Chris Hardwicke all voting 'Yes' on reports CPC2026-0209 and CPC2026-0143. These votes recommend that Council give three readings to various planning initiatives. While the specific details of those reports aren't fully disclosed in the data, it tells us the gears of urban development are constantly turning. This is Calgary – we’ve seen the boom, we’ve seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.

What does this mean for you? Well, these planning commission recommendations are the groundwork for what our city will look like in the future – from new developments to how we use our public spaces. Keep an eye on Council for those three readings; that’s where the rubber meets the road.
