Our Canes just couldn't seal the deal against Vegas last night
Y'all, I know it's tough to wake up to, but the Carolina Hurricanes dropped a tough one at home to the Vegas Golden Knights, 5-4. It was one of those games that had you screaming at the TV, then cheering, then screaming again. We came out firing, with Nino Ehlers bagging two goals in the first period – the first one barely a minute in! Jacob Slavin and Jalen Chatfield getting the assists on that opening salvo, and Chatfield grabbed another helper on the second Ehlers goal. But Vegas just kept chipping away, scoring late in the first, twice in the second, and then again early in the third. Jordan Staal tried to rally us in the second, and Shayne Gostisbehere tied it up in the third, but then Tomas Hertl got the winner for Vegas with just over three minutes left. Brutal.
This wasn't some sleepy Tuesday night affair, either. It was a proper slugfest. Brayden McNabb for Vegas was all over the place with three assists, and Shea Theodore had a goal and two assists. Our boys outshot them 27-23, which is a rare sight and shows how opportunistic Vegas was. It felt like every time we got some momentum rolling, they found a way to punch back. Losing by one at home stings, especially when you're fighting back the whole game. The PNC Arena was rocking, but it just wasn't enough to push us over the edge this time.
So, what does this mean for the Carolina Hurricanes moving forward? Well, we’re still sitting pretty at 53-22-7, first in the Metropolitan, and our last 10 record of 7-2-1 shows this is just a bump in the road, not a total derailment. It doesn't change our standing, but it does remind us that every single game matters, especially against a team like Vegas who knows how to win when it counts. We gotta tighten things up defensively. With the playoffs just around the bend, every point matters for seeding. Head to Allen & Son BBQ in Chapel Hill this weekend, get yourself some comfort food, and let's get ready for the next one. We’re still the Bunch of Jerks, and we ain't going anywhere.
