Well, get ready, b'y, because the CRTC just dropped news that's gonna affect every single one of us on the Island and over in Nova Scotia. We're getting a brand-new area code! I kid you not, the 902 is about to have a little brother or sister, and it's some shocking to think we've grown enough to need it.
### What’s the Big Idea?
For as long as I can remember, if you were calling anyone from the Confederation Bridge to Cape Breton, you dialed 902. It was our number, our identity, almost. But with more cell phones than people, it seems, the CRTC reckons we're running out of combinations. So, get ready to add another three digits to your memory bank, because a third area code is on its way.
* **Why now?** Too many new phone connections, simple as that. The 902 pool is drying up. * **When's it happening?** The CRTC says it's coming, but they haven't given us the exact date or the new code yet. Keep your ears peeled. * **What about my current number?** No worries, your existing 902 number isn't changing. This is for new connections.
Now, I know it might seem like a small thing, but for a region that's always felt a bit tight-knit, a bit "everyone knows everyone," this feels like a real shift. It's a sign of growth, I suppose, more people connecting, more businesses setting up shop, more folks calling our little island home.
