What a tough descent for your Colorado Avalanche last night.
The St. Louis Blues came into Ball Arena and snagged a 3-2 win, with Robert Thomas netting a hat trick, including the game-winner late in the third period. It was one of those nights where the Avs just couldn't quite find their footing. We saw a solid comeback in the first period when Peter Kelly answered Thomas's first goal, and then Brent Burns put us ahead early in the second, but Thomas just kept finding the back of the net. The shots were even at 28-28, which tells you it was a tight one, but the Blues capitalized on their chances better than the Colorado Avalanche.
This loss breaks a decent run for the Colorado Avalanche, putting their last 10 at 6-3-1. While it stings to lose at home, especially to a rival like the St. Louis Blues, the Avs are still sitting comfortably atop the Central Division with 110 points. It’s a good reminder that even when you’re on top of the mountain, you can still hit a slick patch of ice. The schedule ahead means we’ve got to quickly reset and get back to reading the terrain. This team has the talent, we’ve seen it, but sometimes the puck just doesn’t bounce your way.
Around Denver this morning, you can feel a little bit of that frustration, like when you miss the first chairlift on a powder day. But the confidence is still there. We know what this team is capable of, and one tough night against the Blues won't change that. It just means we need to tighten up the lines and get back to that championship form.
Altitude hockey — the air is thin and the Avs are here. Vanny out.
