Your Avs are still riding high after a huge win
Good morning, Denver. Hope you got some decent sleep, because the Colorado Avalanche certainly did after putting a 5-2 stamp on the Minnesota Wild last night. It was a road game that started a little slow, but our boys found their stride and showed why they're sitting pretty atop the Central Division. If you hit the hay early, you missed the Avs kicking into high gear late, much like a climber finding their second wind on a long ascent.
Things got interesting in the second period when Nazem Kadri snapped a power play goal, assisted by Martin Necas, to finally get the Colorado Avalanche on the board. Then, it was all business in the third period. Ross Colton, off a nice feed from Nathan Roy, put the Avs ahead, and even after the Wild tied it up, Patrick Kelly came through with the go-ahead goal, assisted by J. Drury. Nathan MacKinnon and Bowen Nelson then buried empty-netters in the final minute, solidifying the 5-2 victory. That MacKinnon goal, especially off a Necas assist, was pure poetry – they just read the terrain better than anyone out there.
This win pushes the Colorado Avalanche to an incredible 55-16-11 record, holding down first in the Central with 121 points. They're on a nice little streak now, making those final games of the season feel less like work and more like a victory lap before the real push. The mood around Denver feels as bright as a clear morning over the Flatirons, and this team is giving us plenty to cheer about. It’s the kind of performance that makes you want to grab brunch at Snooze on Broadway and just soak it all in.
Altitude hockey — the air is thin and the Avs are here. Vanny out.
Keith and the gang are already breaking this down, you should definitely check them out live at mornings.live.
