Your neighbors are worried about this in Dallas
Dallas on the wire — big hat, bigger story.
Look— if you live in Dallas, you've probably called 311 at some point. Maybe it was for a pothole that could swallow a small car over near Pleasant Grove, or a missed trash pickup in Oak Cliff. But the latest city data shows what's really got folks reaching for their phones, and it's not what you might expect.
The top issue by a *mile* in recent service requests? "Code Concern - CCS." We're talking 30,326 requests. That's ten times more than the next highest category. "Code Concern" can be anything from overgrown weeds to a property falling into disrepair, maybe even a rogue chicken in someone's backyard – *mi mamá* would say, "Es una vergüenza." It tells you a lot about what people are seeing in their day-to-day lives in neighborhoods across the city. Folks want their blocks to look good, and they're not shy about asking the city to step in.
Here are a few other things that caught my eye:
* **Single Family Rental Needs Registration - CCS:** 1,341 requests. This one's important, especially with all the investor-owned properties popping up. * **Consumer Protection Complaint - CCS:** 459 requests. Always good to see people standing up for themselves when something feels off. * **Restaurant/Food Complaint - CCS:** 172 requests. Given how many incredible places we have here, you hope these are few and far between.
It really feels like Dallas residents are keeping a close eye on the basics. They want their streets clean, their properties maintained, and their neighborhoods respected. What this means for our city council? They need to keep investing in code enforcement and city services that directly impact our quality of life. Expect to hear more about how the city plans to address this mountain of code concerns in upcoming budget discussions.
