He’s only played in 13 games over three seasons, battling injuries, but the potential is there. This tells me Brad Holmes and Coach Campbell are still committed to finding value, filling specific needs, and trusting their evaluation process, not just throwing money around the way some other teams do. This isn't an "all-in" move like some fans might hope for after last season's strong finish, but it’s certainly not a rebuild either. It’s about shoring up the trenches.
What I’m hearing from folks over at Bookies, and even just walking around Corktown, is a mix of "wait and see" and a little bit of "we need more." There's no one signing yet that has Detroit Lions fans doing backflips down Woodward Avenue, and frankly, Payton Turner isn't going to be that guy. But his signing does show a continued emphasis on building defensive line depth, which is something this team desperately needs. We saw how much the pass rush struggled at times last year, and a healthy Turner could provide some real juice.

My expectations for next season remain high because of the coaching staff and the culture, but I'm looking for a few more impact players before I start penciling in playoff wins. We need a bit more certainty on the defensive side of the ball before we can truly challenge for the NFC North again. The Detroit Lions don't need your pity — we need your attention.
