Detroit Red Wings Game Recap: MTL 1, DET 3

Yzerman's Vision is Blooming Right Before Your Eyes

What up doe, Hockeytown? Woke up this morning feeling good, sun shining down on Lafayette, and the Detroit Red Wings pulling off a real grinder against the Montreal Canadiens last night, winning 3-1 at home. For two periods, it felt like we were playing with our skate laces tied, just couldn't get that puck past Sam Montembeault. Then that Montreal power play goal from Juraj Slafkovský in the second, and I’m thinking, 'Here we go again.' But nah, not last night. Not on our watch. This team, man, they got grit, they got that fight.

The third period, though? That was the Detroit Red Wings I remember. That was the *Detroit* Red Wings. Andrew Copp and Patrick Kane set up J. T. Compher early in the third, and that woke us up. And then, our boy Alex DeBrincat, from Farmington Hills, he puts in the game-winner at 16:35, then just for good measure, sets up Copp for the empty netter. DeBrincat was straight up electric out there, just like when you hit Eastern Market on a Saturday morning and the energy is just buzzing. You could feel the whole building breathe a sigh of relief, then erupt. That’s the kind of heart we need.

This win is huge. We needed that W after a shaky stretch, plain and simple. It puts us back in that second Wild Card spot, giving us 84 points and a little breathing room. We got some tough games coming up, but this shows we can dig deep and close out games when it counts. The mood in Detroit this morning? Hopeful. Cautiously optimistic. The kind of feeling you get after a good Buddy’s Pizza, you know? Satiated, but ready for more. We’ve been waiting a long time for this, Detroit, and it feels like it's finally starting to click. LGRW.

LGRW — from Hockeytown USA, Mo W, out.
