Your councillors spent over $2K for a Calgary hotel stay

Your council spent how much on hotels in Calgary

The Agenda Review Committee met last week, and honestly, if you blinked, you probably missed it. All three members present — Councillors Knack, Stevenson, and Wright — voted unanimously on every motion, which is just about as exciting as watching paint dry on a particularly cold January afternoon. This included approving minutes and, in a moment of true theatricality, deciding to meet both in public and in private for different items. The consistency, if nothing else, is admirable.

What truly catches the eye, though, is how Edmonton City Council members are preparing for the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary. Councillor Clarke and Councillor Elliott each expensed $825.88 for accommodation alone. Councillor Clarke also tacked on $685 for registration, while Councillor Elliott spent an additional $348 on food and incidentals. That's well over two thousand dollars for two councillors to head south. It reminds you that even when the River Valley is glowing gold in the fall, some things never change.

* Councillor Clarke: $825.88 (accommodation) + $685.00 (registration) * Councillor Elliott: $825.88 (accommodation) + $348.00 (food and incidentals) * Convention dates: November 12-14, 2025

It makes you wonder what crucial insights they'll bring back from Calgary that couldn't be learned right here. Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
