Your City Hall wants to talk in private again
Good morning, Edmonton. Darren Fedoruk here, staring out at the grey, a classic start to a June day.
City Hall's Audit Committee had a busy session on May 27, 2026. The minutes from the April 10, 2026, meeting were approved, all 7-0. The agenda for the May 27 meeting was also adopted unanimously, but not before a new item was added: 9.1 External Auditor - Non-Audit Service Request. And here’s where it gets interesting, or perhaps, predictably Edmonton.
The committee voted 7-0 to meet in private for discussions regarding items 7.1 and 7.2, citing section 29 (advice from officials) of the *Access to Information Act*. Just moments before, they’d voted to meet in public. It’s a bit of a dance, isn't it? One minute, full transparency, the next, a closed door. You’d think with all the talk about public trust, these meetings would be more open. Honestly though, it just feels like the usual song and dance for those of us who’ve been watching for a while.
What does it mean for you? Well, it means some of the details surrounding the City Auditor's recommendations and the External Auditor’s service requests will remain out of public view for now. Keep an eye on future Audit Committee agendas to see if these items re-emerge in public discussion.
