Your Council is Talking Priorities and Spending Money
Council was busy on May 29, passing a series of motions related to the 2025-2029 City Council Priorities. These votes weren't unanimous, which is always worth noting. For example, one motion to approve actions outlined in Attachment 4 (Attachment 1 - L) of a City Manager report, OCM03567, passed 7 to 4. Councillors Salvador, Rutherford, Wright, and Morgan voted against it. It's a reminder that even when things move forward, there are often differing views on how to get there. It’s never as simple as it looks on paper.
Speaking of how things get done, Councillor Elliott and Councillor Clarke are set to attend the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention in Calgary. They've expensed over $800 each for accommodation alone, with Clarke also dropping $685 on registration and Elliott another $348 for food and incidentals. Honestly though, these conventions are where a lot of the inter-municipal networking happens, the kind of subtle influence that ends up shaping policy down the line. It's not always about the big, flashy debates; sometimes it's about what happens in the conference halls down south.
Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
