Your councillors got some gifts and you might want to know
Alright, so the latest dispatch from the labyrinthine corridors of City Hall brings us to a few items, though I confess, I usually find more intrigue in a single Oilers power play. Still, the city keeps turning, and apparently, so do the gifts.
According to the latest disclosures, two of our councillors, Andrew Knack and Anne Stevenson, received gifts from BILD Edmonton this year. Knack’s gift, recorded on February 18, 2026, was valued at $390. Stevenson’s, from March 11, 2026, was slightly more at $397 from BILD Edmonton Metro. Aaron Paquette, for his part, reported a grand total of "0" in gifts for 2026, which, you know, is one way to keep things simple.
Now, BILD Edmonton, for those unfamiliar, is the Building Industry and Land Development Association. They represent folks who build houses, condos, the whole shebang. When councillors accept gifts from organizations with clear interests in city development, it tends to raise an eyebrow or two. It's not illegal, mind you, but it’s the kind of thing that makes you wonder about the long conversations over future developments in, say, the River Valley or out near Mill Woods.
What to watch for: Keep an eye on motions related to zoning changes or new developments. See if those gifts turn into policy.
