Your city hall is sending some people to Calgary.
The Edmonton City Council, in its infinite wisdom — and you really have to admire the consistency, honestly — is sending two of its members south for the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention. Councillor Sarah Hamilton and Councillor Erin Rutherford will be representing Edmonton, according to the latest expense reports. Specifically, Councillor Clarke and Councillor Elliott. Excuse me. I've been staring at spreadsheets since 4 AM. That’s *Councillor Clarke* and *Councillor Elliott*.
They’re each ringing up $825.88 for accommodation in Calgary from November 12-14, 2025. On top of that, Councillor Clarke’s registration alone is $685.00, while Councillor Elliott is claiming $348.00 for food and incidentals. The total for these two council members to attend this convention stands at $2,709.76 before any other hidden costs. It’s always fascinating to see where the public purse goes. One wonders, what exactly are they bringing back from Calgary that couldn't be learned from a Zoom call and a particularly well-researched podcast? Edmonton doesn't need your approval. Never did.
We’ll keep an eye on what insights, if any, they bring back to the River City.
