Your police are pretending to be panhandlers, my son
Some good morning, buddy — this is Halifax, and we have stories. And this one, well, it’s a real head-scratcher. You know those folks you see on Spring Garden Road, or sometimes down by the Cogswell Interchange, with a sign asking for a few bucks? Turns out, some of them might just be Halifax RCMP officers in disguise. They're out there, dressed like they're down on their luck, all to catch distracted drivers. No, I'm not pulling your leg, this is actually happening.
It’s an interesting tactic, to say the least. I mean, you see a panhandler, you're not usually thinking, "Oh, there's Constable MacLeod trying to see if I'm texting." They're apparently piloting this new strategy to catch folks who are more interested in their phones than the road. On one hand, you want people safe, right? Distracted driving is some bad business. But on the other, it feels a little… sneaky. Like something you'd read about in a big city, not right here in Halifax, where most folks still wave at the ferry as it crosses the harbour.
