Your 29 million tax dollars aren't helping Burlington Street.

You won't believe what our tax dollars are funding

Good morning from the Hammer — steel town, art town, your town. Don't look away.

Listen, I'm from the Mountain, right? So I see a lot of things. And when I saw that Ottawa is putting 29 *million* into carbon capture and "renewable energy projects," my first thought was: is any of that coming to Burlington Street? Because the air quality around the steel mills, especially with the prevailing winds, is a real concern for families living down in Parkdale and the North End. We've got history there, sure, but we also got lungs, right?

### What This Means for Hamilton

This isn't just some far-off federal thing. When Ottawa throws money at "clean tech," we need to make sure some of it actually lands where it matters most, not just on some corporate balance sheet in Toronto.

* Hamilton’s industrial core along Burlington Street East is still a massive employer, but also a source of emissions. Any real investment in carbon capture needs to be looking at places like Dofasco and Stelco. * We've got so many incredible waterfalls and green spaces on the Escarpment. Investing in localized renewable energy, like small-scale hydro or solar on some of the brownfield sites, could make a difference for the lower city. * This money needs to find its way to our city council, to our local businesses, to the folks who actually live with the industrial legacy every day. Otherwise, it's just talk.

It’s easy for politicians to talk big numbers and vague projects, but we need to see the rubber hit the road, or in our case, the steel hit the furnace. We deserve to know how this money benefits *us*, the people of Hamilton, especially those living near the industrial heart of our city. This isn't just about some distant energy project; it's about the air we breathe and the future of our kids playing in Gage Park, right?

Good morning from the Hammer — steel town, art town, your town. Don't look away.

My brother, Stevan, and the gang break this down every morning. Catch it live at mornings.live.
