The Kansas City Chiefs just drafted their future and Kansas City has opinions
Alright, so the dust has settled on the NFL Draft, and I’m standing here at Gate B, the sun setting behind Arrowhead Stadium, and you can almost feel the collective sigh of relief and excitement rolling across Kansas City. Were these the picks everyone expected? Maybe not every single one, but Veach and Reid, they got that long view, you know? They’re building for tomorrow while still trying to hold that championship window wide open. When they took Xavier Worthy out of Texas, that speed, boy, that’s going to light up the scoreboard. And then Kingsley Suamataia, a big tackle from BYU, that's just smart football, shoring up that line for Patrick Mahomes.
Now, how do these guys fit? Worthy immediately injects that genuine, game-changing speed that's been missing on the outside. He’s a weapon, plain and simple, and I can already hear the roar when he takes one to the house. Suamataia gives us another body on the offensive line, some depth and potential to develop into a long-term starter protecting Mahomes' blind side. And then there's a guy like Jared Wiley, the tight end from TCU. You can never have too many good hands, and he's got a chance to contribute. We addressed speed at receiver, depth on the offensive line, and even some intriguing pieces at other spots.
The mood in Kansas City? It’s a mix, like a good platter at Arthur Bryant's — some folks are euphoric about the potential, others are still trying to connect the dots, but everyone’s buzzing. There’s a quiet confidence, the kind you get when you’ve seen this team overcome just about anything. We know what a little speed and a solid line can do for a quarterback like ours. I’d grade this draft class, in one word, as "Intentional."
From 18th and Vine to Arrowhead and back — the Kingdom holds. This is Marcus Webb, Kansas City.
