Okay, your city hall just changed how we get around
Good morning from the Okanagan — the lake is calm, the vines are growing, and we have things to discuss.
You know, we're always talking about getting around Kelowna, especially with that floating bridge getting busier every year. Well, your City Council just made a pretty big move on that front. They approved the final designs for the new **Bernard Avenue Cycle Track**, and not everyone was thrilled.
Bernard Avenue's Big Move
Okay, but here's the thing nobody talks about: this wasn't a unanimous decision. The vote was a tight **4-3** to move forward with the plan. The projected cost? A cool **$3.5 million**. This track will run from Richter Street all the way down to Abbott Street, connecting some major downtown hubs. It’s part of the city's larger "Active Transportation Plan" aiming to make it easier and safer to bike or walk.
* **Project**: Bernard Avenue Cycle Track * **Cost**: $3.5 million * **Route**: Richter Street to Abbott Street * **Council Vote**: 4-3 (approved)
What this means for us is less traffic on the roads, potentially, but also some changes to parking and how we navigate downtown Bernard. Keep an eye on the construction, which is slated to begin next spring. It’ll definitely impact your commute if you’re heading downtown for some Guisachan Heritage Park exploration or hitting the farmers’ market.
That’s your City Hall update for today, Kelowna. Have you eaten?
