Well, good morning, Flames faithful. If you made it through that one last night, you’ve got stronger grit than I do. Slept on it, sure, but it didn't exactly get better with rest. The boys went into New York, the lights were bright, and they just plain got shut out by the Rangers, 4-0. Lafrenière decided it was his night, potting a hat trick, and Sheary tucked one in too. It started rough with a power play goal against in the first — Zibanejad and Fox setting up Lafrenière — and it just kinda stayed rough. We only managed 21 shots all night. Twenty-one. That’s not gonna drill through much of anything, let alone a hot goalie in Shesterkin.
The second period wasn't much better, eh? Sheary snuck one in, then Lafrenière got his second. Look, the effort, it was there in spurts, but it felt like we were always a step behind, chasing the play instead of dictating it. They had us tied up more often than not, and when we did get a chance to put something together, it just fizzled. You can talk about the road, the travel, whatever you want, but at the end of the day, you gotta find a way to get one past the goalie, especially when the other team is finding twine. It was just a flat performance, plain and simple.
So, what does it mean? Well, we’re sitting at 25-32-7, still seventh in the Pacific, still way out of the wild card picture at number nine. We're on a losing streak again, and with a 3-6-1 record in our last ten, it feels like we're just treading water, barely. The next few games, they're not gonna get any easier. We need to find some fire, some pushback, or this season's gonna just peter out. The city, this morning, it's quiet. People are getting to work, probably grumbling over their coffee. It’s the kind of quiet that says, "We expected more, but we're not surprised." We gotta dig deep, boys.
Red and gold forever — give'r, Cal-gree.
