New York Islanders Game Recap: NYI 4, STL 3

Alright, Long Island. Rise and shine, grab your cawfee, maybe a cold slice from Umberto's if you got a pre-order in from last night, because the boys went out to St. Louis and did somethin' special. Not fuh nuttin', but I know a lot of youse probably turned it off after the second period, or fell asleep on the couch tryin' to stay up for a road game, so let me tell ya: if you missed this one, you missed a classic Islanders comeback. We were down 3-0 in the second period, lookin' flatter than a week-old beer at a Rangers tailgate, and then Pageau – God bless that man – got us on the board at 17:50 of the second, off a nice feed from Schaefer and Barzal. That goal? That was the oxygen mask.

Then the third period hit, and it was like a different team came out. The Blueshirts from the island of Manhattan couldn't do this, believe me. Ritchie got the power play goal at 5:52, and then, *bang*, Horvat with *another* power play goal a minute later, 6:52, from Ritchie and Barzal again. Just like that, 3-3. The shots tell the story, too – 49 to 23. We were relentless. And then, in overtime, who else but Mat Barzal? 2:11 into OT, from Schenn and DeAngelo, he called game. The kid's got ice in his veins, always has. It wasn't pretty for two periods, but the comeback? That’s pure Islanders grit right there. That's the DNA.

What does it mean? It means we're 37-23-5, 79 points, firmly in third in the Metro. We’re on a damn seven-game winning streak in our last ten, and we just won a road game where we looked dead in the water. That's confidence, that's character, and that's exactly what you need heading into the back half of March. Next up, we got some tough matchups, but after a comeback like that, nothin' feels insurmountable. The mood on the Island this mornin'? It's a little less stressed, a little more smug, and a whole lot louder.

Not fuh nuttin' — but we're the dynasty. See youse.
