Seattle Kraken Game Recap: NSH 4, SEA 2

Good morning, Seattle. The liquid sunshine is out, and unfortunately, so are some of our playoff hopes after a 4-2 loss to the Predators last night at Climate Pledge. For those of you who might've drifted off after a promising start, the Kraken came out strong, with Kaapo Kakko lighting the lamp early at 2:14 of the first, assisted by Shane Wright – a beautiful moment of our future on display. Matty Beniers doubled the lead at 9:46, off a feed from Jared McCann and Vince Dunn, sending the Deep into a frenzy. We looked dominant. Then, the second period hit, and it felt like a different team entirely. Nashville found their rhythm, with Tyson Jost putting them on the board at 4:14, followed by Ryan Schaefer at 10:19, and then Ryan Ufko giving them the lead at 14:25. It was a complete turnaround, and a gut punch to watch live. Steven Stamkos sealed it with an empty-netter at 19:55 of the third, making it a 4-2 final.

Looking back at the tape this morning, the shot disparity tells a significant part of the story: 45 shots for Nashville to our 27. We started hot, but the Predators found their legs, and we just couldn't match their energy or their consistent pressure through the second and third periods. Our defense, which has been a backbone, seemed to sag under the relentless Nashville attack in that crucial middle frame. While the early goals from Kakko and Beniers show the offensive potential we know is there, the inability to sustain that pressure, especially against a team that’s also fighting for a playoff spot, is a concerning pattern. Our special teams, specifically our penalty kill, held strong, but we didn't draw enough power plays ourselves to really generate sustained offensive zone time when we needed it most.

This loss stings, especially at home, and our playoff picture looks a little hazier this morning. We’re holding onto that Wild Card #2 spot in the West, but at 29-25-9 for 67 points, the margin for error is shrinking rapidly. Our last 10 games are 4-6-0, and a losing streak right now is the last thing we need. The mood on Capitol Hill and in the Central District feels a bit heavy – it was a game we really needed to win. We're still building this franchise, and every point matters for that identity we're forging. We need to regroup quickly, because the schedule isn't getting any easier. The fight for the playoffs is officially a grind, and we need to find that deep-sea drive again, starting now.

Fear the Deep — from the Emerald City, this is Z.
