Justice Minister Matt Wiebe says Manitoba is finally going in-house to collect things like speeding tickets and court-ordered fines, instead of paying an outside agency a hefty 18% commission. Honestly, it makes so much sense. Why are we paying someone else almost a fifth of what's owed when we could keep that money working for us right here in Manitoba?
This is something that affects every corner of our province, including right here in Neepawa. Think about those traffic stops on the Yellowhead Highway, especially after a long weekend when folks are heading back from Riding Mountain. Or maybe it's a parking ticket downtown near the Margaret Laurence House during the Lily Festival. Every one of those fines, big or small, represents money that should be coming back into the system. If we're keeping more of that 18% commission, that's more funds for services across Manitoba.
