Your neighbors are really loud, and the data proves it
So look—we talk a lot about what goes down at City Hall, the big money, the lobbyists. But sometimes, the real story is just… your neighbors. The latest 311 service request data? It’s deadass a full report on how loud New Yorkers are, especially after dark.
Here’s the thing about our city:
* "Noise - Street/Sidewalk / Loud Music/Party" topped the list with 3,793 calls. That’s more than anything else, anywhere. * Right behind it? "Noise - Residential / Loud Music/Party" with 3,637 requests. Then "Noise - Residential / Banging/Pounding" at 2,687.
That's almost 10,000 noise complaints in a short period, just for loud music and banging. The MTA is broken, right? Rent is too high? Yeah, and people are throwing parties like it’s 1999 while you’re trying to sleep for your 6 AM shift. This isn't just about loud music; it’s about quality of life. You can’t tell me someone in Flatbush or Jackson Heights isn't trying to just get some peace and quiet after working all day.
Lobbyist activity continues, with some new names like Intermediate Capital Group, Inc. and Barnard College getting representation, according to the lobbyist registry. But seriously, the real power play right now is figuring out how to get your building to chill out. That’s New York — if you can’t keep up, take the bus.
