You gotta be kidding me with this.
### Sam Roberts is just… a guy
So, the New York Giants went out and signed Sam Roberts, a defensive tackle, right? And listen, I’m not saying the guy’s bad. He’s a body. He fills a uniform. But if you’re asking me, Colleen Marchetti-Burns, if this move tells me the New York Giants are suddenly "going all in" or even "rebuilding" with some grand vision, I’d laugh in your face harder than a tourist trying to navigate the subway at rush hour. This feels like a depth signing, a practice squad elevation at best. It's plugging a tiny hole with a thimble, not building a dam. We're coming off a 4-13 season, and my expectations for next year don't exactly jump through the roof because we added a rotational defensive lineman. Fans in New York City are still holding their breath for bigger moves, not celebrating a guy most of them are going to have to Google.
### What are we even doing here
It tells me Joe Schoen is still in the "filling holes with spackle" phase, not the "rebuilding a foundation" phase. The New York Giants still desperately need playmakers on offense, another legitimate receiver to pair with the guys we got, and frankly, some serious talent on the offensive line to protect whoever is under center. We can't keep trotting out the same old story and expect a different ending. I'm not thrilled, I'm not furious, I'm just… skeptical. We need more than a single defensive tackle to change the trajectory of a team that finished 15th in the conference. What does this change for next season? Not much, yet. My Sunday afternoons are still going to be a rollercoaster of emotions, probably leaning more towards the plummet than the climb if this is the biggest splash we're making.
