Your city hall just voted on some big immigration stuff
Look, here’s the deal—it’s always something when it comes to immigration, especially here in Arizona. Yesterday, the US Senate had a pretty big vote on the SAVE America Act. That bill was trying to put a lot of new restrictions on voting, and honestly, a lot of folks here were watching it closely. It failed, mijo. Republicans pushed for it, but it looks like there were enough defections, even from their own side, to stop it from passing. This isn’t a small thing, especially for our communities here in South Phoenix, where every vote counts.
And speaking of big federal moves, there was another one that got through. Republicans managed to push a whopping $70 billion through the US Senate for immigration enforcement. Seventy *billion*, oye. And the catch? No limits on ICE. That’s a massive amount of money, and it’s going to directly impact how things are handled at the border and within our communities. We already see a lot of ICE activity; this could mean even more.
* **Voting Restrictions:** The SAVE America Act failed in the Senate. * **Immigration Enforcement:** $70 billion approved for enforcement, no ICE limits.
What this means for us here in Phoenix is that the federal landscape is still shifting hard when it comes to immigration. We need to keep our eyes on how these federal decisions ripple down to our local streets and neighborhoods, especially as we head into another election cycle.
That’s the Valley, baby — 115 degrees and we're still out here.
