Bugs Bunny and Mr. Potato Head got their start at Pitt?

Your favorite cartoon characters have a Pittsburgh connection

So listen—this is wild, yinz. You know Bugs Bunny, right? And Mr. Potato Head? Turns out, the guy who voices them, Jeff Bergman, got his start right here at the University of Pittsburgh. He's been the voice of Bugs and a bunch of other Looney Tunes characters for years, and now he's gonna be Mr. Potato Head in the new *Toy Story 5*. It just makes you think about all the talent that comes through this city and then goes out and does big things.

### From Pitt to Hollywood

It’s easy to forget that folks who become famous usually started somewhere normal, n'at. For Bergman, it was the classrooms and stages up in Oakland, probably walking past the Cathedral of Learning every day, just like thousands of other students. It’s pretty nebby to think about him practicing those voices in his dorm room or even in one of those Nationality Rooms! He took what he learned here and made a whole career out of it.

* Jeff Bergman is a Pitt alum. * He's the long-time voice of Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, and other Looney Tunes. * He's also set to voice Mr. Potato Head in the upcoming *Toy Story 5*.

It just goes to show, yinz, that Pittsburgh isn't just about steel and bridges anymore. We're a city that grows smart, creative people who go on to impact the whole country. So next time you hear Bugs Bunny say "What's up, Doc?", just remember, that's a little bit of the Burgh talking right back at you. That's the Burgh, yinz — steel town heart, no matter what.
