You won't believe what they're doing for Pride in Red Deer
Morning from Central Alberta — five communities, one correspondent, and all the stories the big papers forgot.
Well now, I'll tell you what, there are a lot of stories floating around today that catch your eye, but one down in Red Deer really stuck out to me. Most folks are probably thinking about the big stories — the privacy concerns with Elections Alberta, or maybe the highway cleanup this weekend, which, bless their hearts, they always need after a long winter. But the Queer Neighbours Society of Red Deer is holding a drag queen silent auction fundraiser. Now that's what I call putting your best foot forward to support community.
### Pride and Community Spirit
You see, this isn't just about throwing a party; it's about making sure the whole lineup of Pride events this summer in Red Deer gets the backing it needs. These events bring people together, create a space for folks to feel seen, and honestly, they just add a bit of colour to the long Alberta summer. It's happening right here in our backyard, and it shows that Red Deer, like so many of our smaller communities, is finding its own way to celebrate and support everyone who calls it home.
* This fundraiser helps finance Red Deer's summer Pride events. * It highlights the growing and vibrant LGBTQ+ community in Central Alberta. * It's a chance for folks to support a good cause and maybe even snag something neat at the auction.
This kind of initiative, bringing people together for a good cause and a bit of fun, that's the real spirit of Red Deer. It’s what keeps our communities humming, whether you’re talking about a county fair or, in this case, a drag queen silent auction for Pride. It’s a reminder that community isn't just about where you live, but who you stand with.
