Your street sweeping ticket is not a joke
Morning from Central Alberta — five communities, one correspondent, and all the stories the big papers forgot.
Well now, I'll tell you what, there are some things you just expect every year, like the Red Deer Rebels making a good run or the price of diesel going up just before seeding. Another one of those sure things is the city telling you to move your truck off the street for sweepin'. But every year, without fail, folks seem to forget. And then they get that ticket, or worse, their pickup gets hauled away.
This year, the street sweeping starts up again on May 19th. The city's pretty clear about it: if your vehicle's still on the street when they come through your zone, you're looking at a ticket and a tow. It ain't just an empty threat, either. They've been serious about it for years. I remember one year, down near Bower, they must've towed half a dozen rigs in a single morning. It's a real pain in the backside, and it costs you a fair bit more than just finding a spot in your driveway or a buddy's yard.
### What This Means for Red Deer
* **Check Your Zone:** The city's got a schedule posted online and often puts signs up in neighborhoods. Don't just guess when they're coming through your neck of the woods, whether you're in Vanier or over by Deer Park. * **Move Your Ride:** This is the big one. If you leave it, they'll tow it. Simple as that. Find an off-street spot, even if it's just for the day. * **A Clean City:** It might be a hassle, but it keeps the dust down and makes Red Deer look a sight better. Keeps all that grit out of the Red Deer River too, which is important for everyone.
It might seem like a small thing, but getting your vehicle towed is an expensive surprise nobody needs. Especially not right when folks are busy getting their gardens in or heading out to the lake. Just take a minute, check the schedule, and save yourself the headache and the cash.
