Your Sharks just couldn't finish in Edmonton
Teal faithful, that one... yeah. Waking up this morning in San Jose, CA, after a 5-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers feels like trying to debug code with a missing semicolon. We started strong, Orlov getting us on the board. But then, a power play goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and it just unraveled in that first period. Two more quick ones from Connor Murphy and Vasili Podkolzin, and suddenly we're down by two after the first. Our Sharks had 30 shots to Edmonton's 37, which tells you the story of how much work Magnus Chrona was doing between the pipes.
The second period showed some real grit, the kind we love to see. Filip Regenda and Kyle Sherwood both found the back of the net, Sherwood's goal coming off a nice assist from Dmitry Orlov, narrowing the gap to 4-3. We felt that surge, right? Like maybe, just maybe, we could steal one on the road. But the third period, that's where the Oilers closed it out. Marcus Jones and Zach Hyman both scored, and that was pretty much it. It’s frustrating when you see the effort, the pushback, but the score sheet just doesn't reflect it at the end of regulation.
This loss breaks our two-game win streak and keeps us at 70 points, still 6th in the Pacific and holding onto that Wildcard #4 spot. It's a tight race, and dropping points to teams like the Edmonton Oilers makes every remaining game critical. We've got to find that consistency, that 60-minute effort, especially with the playoff picture getting clearer. Our next few games are going to tell us a lot about what kind of run we can make. Walking past the SAP Center this morning, I can feel the collective sigh across the city. We need to reset, regroup, and come out swinging next time.
