Saskatoon, your tax drop box is gone by 2026. What now?

You need to see this to believe it in Saskatoon

Okay, so this is actually wild. Everyone across the country is talking about the Canada Revenue Agency closing its drop box filing system after tax season ends in 2026. For a lot of cities, it's just another bureaucratic change, but in Saskatoon, it feels like another sign of how much things are shifting, and not always for the better, especially for folks who need that extra layer of in-person support.

Saskatoon is a city that will invite you to a farm-to-table dinner and then make you defend the concept of a city for twenty minutes. We appreciate the personal touch, you know? Think about all the seniors in Riversdale or the folks in Pleasant Hill who rely on those physical drop boxes because online access isn't always a given, or they just prefer the peace of mind. Our local tax services, the ones at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 22nd Street, they're probably already bracing for how this will impact their walk-in traffic and the support they offer. It’s a prairie-underdog thing, maybe, but we like to know there’s a real person, or at least a real box, to connect with. This city has better bridges per capita than anywhere in the country and nobody's making it interesting, but we’re losing the most basic connection to the CRA? It just hits differently when you consider our provincial budget is already projecting a huge deficit for 2026-27, and affordability is supposed to be a priority. We need services that actually *serve* the people, not just streamline things for Ottawa.
