Your bike lane drama is finally over, for now
Saskatoon — seven bridges, two rivers, and something happening you haven't heard about yet. Well, this week, my darlings, we were all hearing about one thing: those glorious, much-debated bike lanes.
Okay, so this is actually wild. City Hall has been a flurry of activity, and the big news is that the city has officially approved the proposed permanent bike lane network! Remember all those debates, the petitions, the passionate discussions at every single coffee shop downtown? It seems the council has finally listened, deliberated, and made a decision.
Now, it wasn't a unanimous "yes, let's ride!" situation. There were still a few councillors who raised concerns about traffic flow and parking, especially around the Broadway Bridge area. But, a majority saw the vision for a more connected, bike-friendly Saskatoon. Expect to see those painting crews out there once the snow properly decides to leave us alone.
This is a big step for our city, which sometimes loves its cars almost as much as it loves a good perogy. It shows a real push towards more sustainable transit, which is something we can all agree is a good thing, yes? Even if it means occasionally having to share the road a little more.
