Your council is arguing about a fence, mon ami
Bonjour from the North — three cities, one corridor, and the stories that don't make it south of Barrie.
So, you know how sometimes you hear about something from our city council, and you just kinda shake your head and think, "Is this *really* what we're spending time on?" Well, grab your coffee, because Prince Township — just west of the Sault, past the International Bridge, heading out towards Gros Cap — they asked the province for sixty *thousand* dollars. For a fence. For a park. And the province said, "Non, merci." You know, for Deans Road Park. Sixty thousand dollars for a fence. *Tabarnak.*
### The Fence Fiasco
It's not about the fence itself, not really. It's about what it says about how things work up here, eh? Prince Township, it's a small place. They're trying to make Deans Road Park better for their families, for the kids who are growing up out there with all that space around them. And they look to the province for a bit of help, because, let's be honest, sixty grand is a lot for a small township. But the province, they just said no. No explanation, just a polite shrug from Queen's Park, I'm sure.
* Prince Township asked for $60,000 for a perimeter fence. * The fence was for Deans Road Park. * The provincial government rejected their funding application.
This kind of thing, it happens all the time. Small communities along Highway 17, from the Sault all the way to North Bay and Timmins, they're always fighting for every dollar, every little bit of infrastructure. Meanwhile, down south, they're probably building an entire new GO Train station for that kind of money without even blinking. It just feels like sometimes, up here, we're shouting into the wind when it comes to getting basic support for our communities. We're not asking for the moon, just a fence for a park. It makes you wonder what the priority is, you know? What does it take for Northern Ontario to get a "oui" instead of a "non"?
