You won't believe what happened at Alki Beach
Okay, so I’m scrolling through the local news this morning, right? And I see a headline about the Huskies, and I’m like, "Oh, what's new with beach volleyball?" I mean, I know they're good, but then I see the photo – and it’s Alki. And it got me thinking, it's just so *Seattle* to have something like a competitive beach volleyball tournament happening right there, with the Olympics and ferries in the background, you know? It’s not just about the game, it’s about the whole vibe.
I mean, the University of Washington beach volleyball team wrapped up their regular season right here at the Alki Beach Invitational. They went 3-1, which is super impressive. But for me, it’s really about what that represents. You’ve got these student-athletes, out there on the sand, with the city skyline and the Olympic Mountains as their backdrop. It’s a pretty iconic spot.
* The Huskies went 3-1 at their home tournament. * The tournament was held at Alki Beach, a beloved West Seattle landmark. * It marks the end of their regular season, heading into postseason play.
It just feels like a perfect encapsulation of why we live here, doesn't it? We complain about the rent, about the traffic on I-5, about Amazon taking over everything, bus karo. But then you get a day where the sun is out, Rainier is out, and there are people playing competitive sports right on the Sound, with West Seattle just waking up, and everything's forgiven. That’s Seattle — Rainier’s out, everything’s forgiven.
