Your kids can't use phones at school anymore, for real
Okay, so picture this: You’re a student at Chief Sealth or Garfield, and you're used to, I mean, checking your phone between classes, maybe scrolling TikTok in the lunch line at Uwajimaya. Well, those days are over, for sure. Seattle Public Schools just dropped this new cell phone policy, and it's pretty strict — starting Monday, your phone basically has to be "off and away" all day.
I mean, on the one hand, I get it. We've all seen kids glued to screens, missing out on actually talking to each other, you know? Like, remember when you'd just *talk* to your friends at Dick's or while waiting for the ferry to Bainbridge? It feels like forever ago. This is a big shift, especially for high schoolers who've grown up with phones as extensions of their hands.
What This Means for Seattle
* **Less screen time, more eye contact?** Maybe, I mean, we can hope. * **Parents might be a little stressed.** How do you reach your kid in an emergency if their phone is off and away, right? * **The "Seattle Freeze" might get a new angle.** Will kids actually *talk* to each other now, or just stare blankly into the middle distance? My money's on the latter, initially.
