Your spring weather in St. John's is just something else, b'y
Whaddya at, b'y — this is St. John's, oldest city in North America, and we're still here. Let's go.
I'll tell ya one thing, b'y, you can talk about all de big news in da world, but when you wake up in St. John's on a Saturday in April and it looks like Narnia out your window, dat's da real story. We just had another blast of winter, like a proper old nor'easter, and the whole Avalon Peninsula was under a blanket of snow. You can see Signal Hill from anywhere, and it was just swallowed up in white. Every year it's da same, you think spring is here, you see a bit of green, and then BAM! Winter's back for one last hurrah.
### Da Eternal Winter
Now, some people are getting right fed up wit' it, sure, but da funny thing is, you always find a few who make da best of it. You see people out snowshoeing up on da East Coast Trail where it goes by Cape Spear, or kids making snow angels down in Bannerman Park, even though it's practically May. It’s like we’ve just accepted dat da weather changes four times before lunch here. You go out in a t-shirt and you come home in a parka. It's just da way of her, b'y.
* **What this means for St. John's:** * **Patience is a virtue:** You never put your winter coat away until at least June, no matter what da calendar says. * **Roads are tricky:** Even us Newfoundlanders, who should know better, sometimes forget how to drive on da ice and snow, especially down on Water Street when it gets slick. * **Our resilience shines:** We complain, sure, but we always find a way to laugh about it and carry on.
It’s just a reminder, b'y, dat no matter how many fancy shops open up or how many tourists come for George Street, St. John's is always gonna be St. John's. And dat means a bit of snow and a lot of good cheer, even when it’s not quite spring yet.
B'y, da crew talks about stuff like dis all da time — catch 'em live at mornings.live.
