Did you hear about da airport in Stephenville, b'y?
Whaddya at, b'y — this is St. John's, oldest city in North America, and we're still here. Let's go.
I'll tell ya one thing, b'y, you gotta wonder what goes on in some people's heads. Remember dat fellow from Ottawa who was gonna turn Stephenville into some kinda global hub, eh? Big promises, talkin' like he was gonna land jets right on Water Street, practically. Well, da judge just gave da green light for a new owner to take over da Stephenville airport, and frankly, it's about time. Da whole thing was turnin' into a right farce, it was.
It’s a long way from Stephenville to St. John's, but when something like this happens out west, it echoes all da way back here to da Narrows. We've seen our share of big talkers roll through, promise da moon over Signal Hill, and then disappear like a schooner in a fog bank. This fella, Frank Sytner, he bought da airport for a buck! A single Canadian dollar, and then he was gonna bring in all sorts of international flights, even a passenger service to London. Sounded too good to be true, and dat's usually because it is, b'y.
### What This Means for Da Rock
* **A fresh start for Stephenville:** Hopefully, da new owners can bring some stability and actual flights to da area, not just dreams. * **A lesson learned:** Maybe we'll be a bit more cautious about folks comin' in wit' grand plans and no real follow-through. We're a small place, b'y, we can't afford to be messed around. * **Focus on local:** It just shows ya, sometimes da best plans are da ones made by folks who actually understand da lay of da land, not some fella from away lookin' to make a quick buck.
It's a reminder that while we're always lookin' for new opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador, we gotta be smart about who we let through da door. We've got enough challenges wit' people leavin' for Fort Mac without havin' to deal wit' pipe dreams that never take flight. This is our home, b'y, and we deserve better than empty promises.
