Courtney Howell's husband just cured his skin with seaweed.

Your skin issues? Just rub some seaweed on it, b'y!

Whaddya at, b'y — this is St. John's, oldest city in North America, and we're still here. Let's go. I'll tell ya one thing, sometimes da stories dat come outta here, b'y, you just shake your head and smile. You know da old saying, "necessity is da madda of invention," right? Well, dat's exactly what happened down on da Avalon, and it's got me thinkin' about what we've been walkin' right over all dis time.

Turns out, a fella's got skin problems, and his wife, Courtney Howell, she sees all dis seaweed washin' up on da shore, right? So, he starts usin' it, just rubbin' it on his skin, b'y. And it works! I'm tellin' ya, it's like somethin' outta a movie. Now, dis company is sayin' dis stuff is an "incredible natural resource." We've been seein' it pile up on da beaches from Cape Spear to Quidi Vidi for generations, and who knew it was a secret skin cure, eh? We're always talkin' about diversifyin' da economy, and here's a freebie, just sittin' there waitin' for us.

* **A new industry?** Imagine if we could actually start a whole new thing based on somethin' we literally trip over on da East Coast Trail. * **Local solutions:** It's a reminder dat sometimes da answers to our problems are right under our nose, or, in dis case, floatin' up to our shores. * **St. John's connection:** Think of da beaches around Blackhead or da shores down past Petty Harbour – imagine all dat seaweed suddenly havin' a purpose beyond just bein' a bit smelly after a storm.

It’s a funny old world, b'y, and sometimes da best ideas don't come from some fancy lab at MUN, but from a fella just tryin' to soothe his skin down by da ocean. Makes ya wonder what else we're missin' out on, eh?

My buddy Gerry and da gang hash out da wildest stories every blessed mornin' – catch 'em at mornings.live.
