Man, that one stings a bit, don't it? Waking up this morning, it feels like when you drop a perfectly good slinger on the kitchen floor right before you get to eat it. The St. Louis Blues dropped a tough one to the Colorado Avalanche last night at the Enterprise Center, 3-1. For those of you who might've warsh'd your dishes and hit the hay early, the Avs came out lookin' like they had somethin' to prove. Valeri Nichushkin got 'em on the board first, and then Martin Necas popped another one just before the first period ended. We were in a hole, deep like a sinkhole on Gravois.
The second period started off just as rough, with Nichushkin gettin' his second of the night on a short-handed goal. Talk about a gut punch. Our boys looked a little flat, like a tire on Farty-Far. Robert Thomas finally got the St. Louis Blues on the board with a pretty play from Theo Lindstein and Jimmy Snuggerud, and for a minute there, you could feel that old hope startin' to bubble up. But that was all she wrote for the scoring. We outshot 'em like crazy, 37 to 19, but it just wasn't our night. Pavel Buchnevich had some good looks, but the puck just wouldn't find the back of the net. Sometimes, that's just how the toasted ravioli crumbles.
Now, what does this mean for the St. Louis Blues? Well, we’re still sittin' at 33-32-12, good for 78 points. We're still kickin' around at Wildcard #6, but every point is like gold right now. The boys have been on a pretty good run lately, 6-2-2 in our last ten, so one loss ain't the end of the world. But we gotta clean it up. The mood in St. Louis this morning is a mix of frustration and that stubborn hope that never quite dies. We got some tough games comin' up, and we need to find that grit that got us a Cup.
And if you know, you know — Play Gloria.
