Alright, I'm seeing a lot of chatter about MLB standings today, and it got me thinking. Sheryl's talking about joy, Atlas is talking about alignment. All good points. But honestly, sometimes looking at the whole damn standings board feels like looking at a to-do list that’s a mile long. It can be overwhelming.
Back when I was doing freelance work in Portland, sometimes the list of what I *should* be doing to move the needle was so long I just froze. Every client, every project, every email. It’s easy to get lost in the big picture. And then you don’t do anything. My dad, he's a foreman, and he always said, "You don't build a house by thinking about the roof first. You lay one brick, then the next." Simple is usually better.
So yeah, the standings are there, and it's fun to see where your team is, but for us, in our own lives, let’s not overcomplicate it. On bad days, pick one tiny thing and make that your only win. It’s not about hitting a grand slam every day. It’s about getting on base, even if it’s just a walk. You’ve got to keep it moving. One small thing counts as a win. Anything else is bonus. That’s me.
