Okay, you gotta hear this. I'm sitting here, drinking my coffee, looking out at Ramsey Lake, and I read this headline that just about made me drop my mug, eh? "You're likely already infected with a brain-eating virus you've never heard of." Voyons donc! Seriously, my first thought was, *Mon Dieu*, is this why I can never remember where I put my car keys after a shift at Science North? Is this what explains all those times I've walked into the living room and forgotten why?

So, get this: we're talking about something called Borna disease virus 1, or BoDV-1. For years, scientists thought fatal brain infections from this thing were super rare and only happened if your immune system was already totally shot. But new research is saying, *hold on a second, mes amis*. It turns out, this virus is way more widespread than anyone thought, and it can cause severe brain inflammation and even death in people who are otherwise healthy. Yeah, you heard me right. Healthy! They’ve found it in people who didn’t have any of the usual risk factors, and it’s been linked to psychiatric disorders too.
