Scarborough council just approved 3 new builds. Did yours?

Two Fire Alarms Active Right Now

Okay but real talk— fam, it's 9:45 AM on June 5th, 2026, and we've got two active fire alarm incidents happening right now across Toronto. The first alarm was dispatched at 9:06:11 AM, and the second followed shortly after at 9:31:11 AM. Both are currently listed as "Alarm Single Source" with locations pending. Toronto Fire Services are on it, obviously, but it's a good reminder to be aware of your surroundings, especially if you're out and about this morning.

### Scarborough Gets Some Council Love

Switching gears to City Hall, the Scarborough Community Council was busy on May 28th, 2026. According to the recent council votes, they approved a few key zoning by-law amendments. Councillor Michael Thompson, dude, voted yes on all three:

* **468 to 480 Danforth Road and 509 Birchmount Road**: Zoning By-law Amendment Application - Decision Report - Approval. * **5, 7, 9 and 11 Bellamy Road South**: Zoning By-law Amendment Application - Decision Report - Approval. * **468 to 480 Danforth Road and 509 Birchmount Road**: This one got a double mention, but yeah, it passed.

All three passed with a 5-0 vote, with Councillor Neethan Shan also voting yes on the Danforth/Birchmount motion. What does this mean for us? More development in Scarborough, for better or worse, depending on where you stand on these new builds. They also voted to name the Long-Term Care Home at 4610 Finch Avenue East in honour of Bernice Redmon, which is a beautiful thing. But, not everything sailed through; a fence exemption application at 120 Donside Drive actually lost, 2-3, with Councillor Thompson voting no.

Real talk, this is Toronto — stay up.
